Lucas Biagini
Lucas Biagini (b.1996) is an emerging artist from Toronto. In 2018 Lucas received his B.F.A from OCAD University. Lucas rarely uses brushes. He moulds, slices and forms mixtures of oil paint with clays to sculpt relief-like paintings that are highly textured and layered. Biagini has exhibited nationally and internationally including Toronto, Montreal, Lost Angeles, New York, and China.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My primary focus has always been to explore painting as a medium. I approach my work with a blend of seriousness, playfulness, and curiosity, all driven by personal introspection.
While my art draws inspiration from a variety of life experiences, it also serves as a means for me to navigate and overcome challenges. The compositions in my paintings are meticulously crafted, layer by layer, allowing the scraped skins of paint to gradually form into a cohesive structure. This deliberate process sets a limitation, ultimately defining the composition as fixed.
Within these parameters, I've discovered a sense of freedom to experiment and evolve as an artist. Vibrant colors play a significant role in my work, infusing life, emotion, and complexity into my compositions. In addition to traditional painting techniques, I've explored alternative methods using a custom paint mixture that I've honed over several years. This unique blend allows for a seamless transition between painting and sculpting, reflecting my adaptable approach to both art and life.
Each piece I create represents a delicate balance between the constraints of reality and the limitless possibilities of artistic expression. Through my art, I aim to invite viewers to witness the transformative power of creativity, illustrating how it can transcend the ordinary and illuminate the extraordinary. In doing so, I hope to convey how life's challenges can give rise to profound beauty and understanding.
