HISTORY

Juno Youn operated Galerie Youn, a sleek and elegant space nestled in the heart of historic Old Montreal and Mile-End for over 10 years, presenting a meticulously curated selection of solo and group exhibitions annually, offering both in-person experiences, virtual tours and various art fairs.

The gallery traces its origins back to the online art gallery Flying Rooster Contemporary Projects (FRCP), established in 2012. Transitioning to a physical location on Boulevard Saint-Laurent in Montreal in May 2013, Galerie Youn thrived in the Mile-End until spring 2021 when an ideal location in Old Montreal became available after more than fourteen years of anticipation.

Committed to fostering connections between local, national, and international emerging to mid-career contemporary artists, Galerie Youn represented a diverse roster of two dozen artists, hailing from Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. The gallery actively participating in art fairs across Europe and North America, from Mexico City to Miami, New York, and Paris.

Notably, Galerie Youn's book catalogs have been incorporated into the permanent collection of the Thomas J. Watson Library, the central research library of New York’s the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET), since 2018.

Founder Juno Youn, a visual artist originally from South Korea and Ontario College of Art and Design (OCADU) graduate, has a profound background in drawing, painting, and interdisciplinary arts. Prior to Galerie Youn, Youn spearheaded the renowned SPIN Gallery in Toronto from 1999 to 2007.

Recognized for his contributions, Juno Youn was named one of Médiamosaïque’s “Diversity Top 20 Personalities of the Year” in Quebec in 2013. Additionally, he served as co-chair of the ARTSIDA auction in 2018, an annual fundraiser supporting Aids Community Care Montréal (ACCM).

Galerie Youn received Time Out Montreal's 2021 Best of the City award for Best Gallery, cementing its status as a leading cultural institution.

With a legacy of Juno Youn’s 7 years in Toronto and 10 years in Montreal's dynamic gallery scene, Youn Contemporary emerges as a refined private boutique gallery, complemented by occasional pop-up exhibitions and future art fair appearances.
