Ricardo Rodiriguez
Ricardo Rodriguez Cosme, born and raised in Valencia, Spain, completed his studies in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the Valencia Polytechnic University, followed by advanced training at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples. His career began with an esteemed position at the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno, Spain's pioneering modern art institution. Subsequently, he gained invaluable experience at Christie’s Madrid, where exposure to the secondary art market ignited the inspiration for his debut painting collection.
In 2017, Rodriguez's artistic journey reached a pivotal moment with his first solo exhibition in Milan, curated by Riccardo Pozzoli. This success propelled him to establish his own art studio in Valencia, dedicating himself entirely to his craft. Reflecting on this transformative period, Rodriguez remarked, "My first big experience was that year (April 2017) with an exhibition I made in Milan at Italian celebrity Riccardo Pozzoli. This gave me a huge impulse to decide to open my studio and trust my work."
Since then, Rodriguez has participated in numerous exhibitions across Spain and internationally. His diverse series stem from a broad spectrum of interests, yet a constant theme is his profound love for black and white painting. This minimalist palette allows him to delve into the emotional depth of his practice, aiming to imbue his works with a timeless quality.
"It gives me a feeling of harmony; the taste is classic. I’ve always been more interested in classic aesthetics—not only in painting but also in sculpture, architecture, and car design. So, I find combining it with the modern world really interesting," Rodriguez explains.
In his latest series, Rodriguez endeavors to merge Western artistic traditions with contemporary visual culture, seeking to elevate the inherent truth, beauty, and wisdom he perceives in both. This new body of work explores the interplay between the artist and the cowboy, metaphorically examining the varied emotions and situations artists navigate within the art world—relationships with the market, other artists, and most importantly, with oneself.
